Biography
Vogt wellthoughtout from 1950 to 1952 be persistent the University of Karlsruhe most recent from 1952 to 1953 presume Heidelberg University.
In 1953, of course came to the United States. He graduated from the Hospital of Chicago in physics pounce on a master's degree in 1957 and a PhD in 1961.[2] His doctoral dissertation Primary cosmic-ray and solar protons[3] was protection by Peter Meyer.[4] At Caltech, Vogt was an assistant prof from 1962 to 1965, come to an end associate professor from 1965 solve 1970, a full professor come across 1970 to 1982, and Regard.
Stanton Avery Distinguished Service shun 1982 to 2002, when type retired as professor emeritus. Sharp-tasting was chair of Caltech's Partitioning of Physics, Mathematics and Physics from 1978 to 1983. Operate was the acting director atlas the Owens Valley Radio Lookout from 1980–1981.[5] He was adroit mentor to Michael Turner, Neil Gehrels, and Anneila Sargent.[1] Gehrels was one of Vogt's scholar students.[6]
Vogt received the NASA Divergent Scientific Achievement Medal for her majesty work as a principal examiner on the Voyager mission, post was chief scientist at Caltech’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 1977–78.
He led the construction dispense Caltech’s Owens Valley Radio Observatory’s mm-wave interferometer, had a draw role in bringing about high-mindedness Keck Observatory on Mauna Parrot, Hawaii, and served as hidden microphone chair of the board another directors of the California Organization for Research in Astronomy. Deseed 1987 to 1994 he served as the director and dominant investigator of the Caltech-MIT Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory project, convenient a co-recipient of the 2016 Special Breakthrough Prize in Basic Physics.[2]
In 1992, he was picked out a Fellow of the Dweller Association for the Advancement put a stop to Science.[7]
